Today, virtually all municipal roads in Varberg are lit with modern LED technology that provides long lifetimes, low energy consumption and the best possible lighting comfort.
A LED insert costs about half as much as a new luminaire. Varberg Energi has bought over 8000 inserts and saved a lot of money.
The work has been time-efficient and good from a work environment point of view, as the skylift and TMA car have had to spend less time at each column during the assembly work. In the case of luminaire replacement alone, 6 LED inserts have been replaced compared to 2 new luminaires per hour.
On average, about 6m of cable and 4kg of aluminium have been saved on one light point, as the cable and luminaire housing have been reused. This has contributed to an improved circular economy and a reduced footprint in material use.
In total, this means for the project that Varberg Energy is behind:
» Savings of 30 tonnes of aluminium in the form of luminaire housings
» Savings of 5.5 miles of cable between luminaire and column fuse
» Reduction of energy consumption to about 40% (from 4200 MWh to about 1700 MWh)
